Our team of friendly experts works closely with partners across health, education, transport and more – to show how movement and physical activity can tackle inequalities and help solve some of the biggest issues affecting our communities.
Through our work with our partners, we play a key role in:
- Improving mental and physical health and wellbeing
- Enhancing child development and education
- Creating healthy and sustainable places in which to live and work
- Supporting our NHS with improving, managing and preventing a range of conditions
- Nourishing the health and wellbeing of the workforce
In order to tackle inequalities and improve health and wellbeing, we also:
- Influence and advocate for policy and system change
- Share data and insight
- Provide guidance and support
We’re proud to be one of the network of 42 Active Partnerships, and a key partner of Sport England, supporting them to deliver the Uniting the Movement strategy across the UK.
We are supported by Sport England, as well as The National Lottery Community Fund, and a range of other funders.
Why our work is needed
Our population in the North East of England lives with significant health, social, economic and environmental inequalities.
And we know that physically inactive populations are often the most marginalised – and most likely to be adversely affected by inequalities.
Why moving matters
Movement can have profound benefits for our physical health, but it has the power to do so much more.
It’s good for our mental wellbeing, connects and strengthens communities and boosts the nation’s economy.
There’s also overwhelming evidence for the life-changing benefits of being active – from childhood through to old age.
If physical activity were a drug, we would refer to it as a miracle cure, due to the great many illnesses it can prevent and help treat.
